Solar-Powered Walkway
and Patio Lights
Solar powered outdoor lights can contribute to the home's aesthetics, while improving safety and security without impacting your electric bill. They operate using a photovoltaic panel that generates electricity when the sun shines on it. During the day, electricity is stored in a battery. At night, the stored electricity energizes the light. Some models are turned on manually, while others are turned on automatically by light-sensing controls or activated by motion sensors.
An added advantage of solar powered walkway lights
is they require no trenching or wiring other than pushing their
stake into the ground. Most solar lights do not put out a large
amount of light, but they are very useful for lighting the path
to the driveway so people can easily find their way to and from
the home. Solar lights are available that provide a lot of light,
but these are quite expensive and not common in residential applications.
